Will we see democracy in Egypt?
After the resignation of Mubarak last week, do you think we shall see democracy in Egypt? Will the Military masters ansure and oversee a peaceful transition?
As we are now regularly reminded, there is more to democracy than free and fair elections. First must be a culture of lawfulness, which requires that the lawmakers should pass laws that are just, and that all members of society should choose to abide by these laws. Democracy is still taking shape even in the United States, the world's oldest democracy of the modern era, and I reckon it will be many generations before the people of Egypt develop a democratic state of affairs. It is good, though, to see the People Power that toppled the Mubarak dictatorship.
